Dzaleka Refugee Camp, in Malawi, is home to 58,000 refugees from nations like the DRC and Burundi, faces a catastrophic aid crisis. Confined by law and previously reliant on a meager $5 monthly from World Food Program USA, they now have no support due to USAID cuts. Compounding this, WFP suspended all food assistance in Dzaleka entirely in 2025.
Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Malawi faces overwhelming needs in every area: food security, dignity, health care, education, and protection. Refugee families are resilient, but the limitations they live under are severe. Many people cannot legally work, cannot build financial stability, and cannot provide for their children the way any parent would want. This caravan exists to respond with practical support, consistent projects, and long term solutions that restore dignity, not dependency.
In Dzaleka, thousands of families live with constant uncertainty. Food is scarce. Medical needs go untreated. Children grow up in an environment where simple resources, like safe early childhood spaces and basic rehabilitation care, are not guaranteed. When people are not allowed to work, the struggle becomes even harsher, because survival depends on informal options that often hurt families, especially women and children.
Many mothers in the camp are raising children alone. Many are widows. Many have no safe path to earn income. In desperation, some are pushed into unsafe ways of getting money, even when that is not what they want for their lives. Fraternity Without Borders supports a project that offers a different road: agriculture work that brings dignity, safety, and purpose. Every $50 sponsorship allows one mother to be invited to leave that unsafe survival path and join the work in the fields. Our goal is to increase sponsorships so more mothers can step into a safer life, with dignity and the chance to provide for their children.
With your support, we can create real change in Dzaleka. Our caravan will bring both financial donations and essential items packed in our luggage, delivering help directly to the people who need it most. Every contribution, whether money or materials, strengthens this mission and increases our impact. After the caravan, we will publish a clear report showing how each dollar was used and what was delivered, so you can see the difference your support made.
With materials and skilled support, we can help families rebuild safer shelters, restore stability, and protect children and elders from ongoing exposure after the storms.
These machines reduce a major daily barrier by helping families turn harvested corn into meals more easily, strengthening food security and community resilience.
Your support helps us equip a clinic with essential tools for therapy sessions, improving mobility, comfort, and long term development for children and adults in need.
Many classrooms in Dzaleka have almost no resources for children to learn and practice basic skills. Your support helps us provide educational toys and simple, hands on materials that make learning more engaging, playful, and effective.
Sports help children build confidence, teamwork, and hope, but many have no proper shoes or basic equipment. Your donation helps us purchase sneakers and essential sports materials so more children can participate safely and regularly.
We welcomed elders who were previously abandoned in the camp, offering them safety and care. Now we want to add simple, enjoyable activities that help fill their days with purpose, connection, and moments of joy.
In this caravan, we will face many urgent needs, and we will do our best to help in practical ways.
On this page, every dark green button is a donation option: click any of them and choose the project you would like to support. You can help rebuild homes destroyed by heavy rains; help purchase two corn milling machines; help equip the rehabilitation clinic with physiotherapy equipment; help provide educational and classroom materials for the schools; help buy sneakers for the children in Dzaleka; and help bring simple, joyful activities to the elder care home we support, because they also need companionship and meaningful ways to spend their day.
Every contribution matters, and every choice helps us reach people with dignity and care.
Join us as we count down to the beginning of an extraordinary journey.
Our caravan departs on April 23th, 2026. Every moment leading up to our departure is a chance to make a difference. Your support during these crucial days can change lives.
